Bank & SSC - Important Vocabulary
Garrulous (adjective)
Hindi translation: बातूनी 
Meaning:  Excessively talkative
Memory Tip: G for Geet in Jab We Met. She went on talking and missed her train.
Use in Sentence:  I do not enjoy the company of garrulous people during train journeys.
 
Ignominy (noun)
Hindi translation: बदनामी 
Meaning: Public shame or disgrace 
Memory Tip: Ignore + Mini → When you are ignored for small (mini) things in public, you feel ashamed. 
Use in Sentence: The Admiral could not bear the ignominy of being court martialled.
 
Onslaught (noun)
Hindi translation: हमला
Meaning: A destructive attack
Memory Tip: If you slaughter someone on the spot, it is a very destructive attack i.e. onslaught 
Use in Sentence: The monument was destroyed as a result of the continuous onslaughts by the Mughals.
 
Grotesque (adjective)
Hindi translation: विकृत 
Meaning: Repulsively ugly 
Memory Tip: Grow + Tusks → If you grow tusks like an elephant you will look ugly.
Use in Sentence: The grotesque murder was more than the police officer could bear and he quit his job the very next day.
 
Collusion (noun)
Hindi Translation: कपटसंधि
Meaning: Illegal partnership to deceive people
Memory Tip: Coll + u + sion → Collectively +unite for + treason 
Use in Sentence: The soldiers were in collusion with the ministers and they hatched a plan to overthrow their king.
 
Efficacious (adjective)
Hindi translation: प्रभावोत्पादक 
Meaning:  Can produce desired effect
Memory Tip: Efficacious → Effective 
Use in Sentence: The anti-venom was efficacious when administered in small doses.
 
Mastery (noun)
Hindi translation: श्रेष्ठता 
Meaning: Knowledge OR Superiority over something 
Memory Tip: मास्टर को अंग्रेजी में सब आता है,इसलिए उस बिषय में वो दिखाता है अपनी Mastery. 
Use in Sentence: Her mastery over pottery was evident even at a young age, and with age she became a doyen in the field.
 
Outrageous (adjective)
Hindi translation: घोर
Meaning: Unusually shocking and excessive
Memory Tip: Out + rage + ous → Actions outof rage (like murder) usually turn out to be shocking. 
Use in Sentence: We will not stand for this outrageous violation of human rights – the factory must compensate workers for overtime or we strike!
 
Delusion (noun)
Hindi translation: भ्रम 
Meaning:  A belief a person thinks is true but it is not
Memory Tip: Rhymes with illusion → You are in delusion when you have an illusion (make believe thoughts) and you start to believe it is true.
Use in Sentence: He was a disturbed young man, suffering from delusions that he was being abducted by aliens regularly.
 
Unprecedented (adjective)
Hindi Translation: अभूतपूर्व
Meaning: Never done or known before
Memory Tip: Un + Precedent → UN + Presidents → When UN met for the first time with all the Presidents and PMs, this was an unprecedented peaceful gathering of powers. 
Use in Sentence: The decision to allow women entry into the temple was an unprecedented move and was met with praise from all quarters of the country.
