Abstinence (noun)
Hindi translation: संयम
Meaning: Practice of stopping from doing something like alcohol.
Memory Tip: Abs + inence → Absolute +Innocence→ When you do not indulge in something bad, you are absolutely innocent.
Use in Sentence: A monk leads a life of abstinence and is not attached to material things.
 
Profane (adjective)
Hindi Translation: अपमानजनक 
Meaning: Disrespectful
Memory Tip: Pro + fane → Produce + (rhymes with) pain → You produce pain when you use profane language
Use in Sentence: Bhuvan got kicked out of class for using profane language while talking to a fellow student.
 
Blemish (noun)
Hindi translation: कलंक 
Meaning:  A flaw that spoils the appearance of something
Memory Tip: (1) When you have a pimple, your face has a blemish.
Use in Sentence: The drop year was considered by many to be a blemish on his otherwise extraordinary resume.
 
Flagrant (adjective)
Hindi translation: धोर 
Meaning:  Obviously offensive 
Memory Tip: Flag + rant → If you make a rant on Facebook about how the national flag is not important, you are being flagrant.
Use in Sentence: His flagrant use of black money on buying expensive houses and jets landed the businessman in jail.
 
Caricature (noun)
Hindi translation: व्यंग्य-चित्र 
Meaning: A picture in which some striking characteristics of a person are highlighted to create a comic effect 
Memory Tip: Car + icature → Cartoon + architecture (art)
Use in Sentence: The cartoonist earned fame for his caricatures of politicians and businessmen at a time when the country just needed a break from the election campaigning.
 
Explicit (adjective)
Hindi translation: स्पष्ट 
Meaning:  Stated clearly without any doubt
Memory Tip: Expli + cit → Explain + Sit → Sit and explain to make things clear 
Use in Sentence: The news agencies were flashing explicit details of the talks between the External Minister and PM Nawaz Sharif all day long.
 
Reparation (noun)
Hindi translation: हानिपूर्ति 
Meaning: Making amends for something wrong that has been done 
Memory Tip: Reparations → Repairs (making amends OR fixing the wrongs of the past)
Use in Sentence: Germany was ordered to pay war reparations to France and Britain after World War I according to the clauses of the Peace Treaty.
 
Prolific (adjective)
Hindi Translation: फलदार 
Meaning: Productive
Memory Tip: Pro + lif + ic → Production +lifted → Production has been lifted (increased) because the new workers are prolific 
Use in Sentence: The book lovers are waiting for the prolific author’s latest book in the series.
 
Conjecture (noun or verb)
Hindi translation: अटकल 
Meaning: Guess/Opinion made on incomplete information
Memory Tip: Con + Jec + cture → कौन jacketchuraya → कौन jacket चुराया → “कौन जैकेट चुराया?” इस बात को लेकर मोहल्ले में बहुतconjecture चल रही थी, लेकिन किसी को इस बारे में कुछ भी पता नहीं था
Use in Sentence: Students made many conjectures made about who would be their new English teacher, but ultimately nobody 
 
Admonish (verb)
Hindi translation: धिक्कारना 
Meaning:  Scold firmly 
Memory Tip: Adm + Onish → Admi + Punish →बच्चे गलती करें तो उन्हें प्यार से समझाया जा सकता है लेकिन आदमी गलती करें तो उन्हें punish करना पड़ता है
Use in Sentence: The maid was admonished by the mistress for forgetting one chore.
